Tiba, I'll give you this maybe Toussaint's living conditions what somewhat better than that of other slaves.

But for you to portray Toussaint as a spineless, tree-hugging pacifist is outrageous.

His living conditions as a former slave cannot erase the contributions he made to the revolution.

There is some validity to your argument in the sense that the tonality of our history is enormously influenced by foreigners; but Toussaint was not the fictional character that you're implying.

His many contributions to the revolution are not exaggerated.

The man was an army general who vigorously fought against the French, the English and the Spanish.

We cannot brand him as having no back bones because he conducted his military campaigns with a certain degree of moral and ethical standards and would not go on vindictive, senseless killing sprees.

Comparing Toussaint to Martin Luther King Jr. is really baseless.

He was not leading marches to end slavery the man actually fought the oppressors.

He simply fought his battles judiciously.

And I think it takes enormous strength of character and wisdom not cowardice or complicity for Toussaint to fight the cruel oppressors aggressively and yet still maintaining his humanity.

He didn't allow himself to become the monster he was trying to destroy.

I'm not a pacifist but I don't think there's anything wrong with using nonviolence to resolve injustice.

If it is available then it should be the primary weapon of choice.

I admire Martin Luther King for his tactics, for the contributions and the ultimate sacrifice he made during the civil rights movement.

That truly is the core essence of heroism.

There's nothing wrong with having a preference, personally I don't think either one is greater than the other.

They are both heroes in their own rights.

It took a collective effort that was greater than these two great men to secure our independence.

I agree that Dessalines deserves greater recognitions but tearing down Toussaint to elevate Dessalines is fundamentally wrong and ungrateful.

This is not the way to depict a man who spent his last days in a cold prison cell in France when his crime was that he wanted Saint Domingue a free country.
