Hi Move Zanj. I completely agree with you that any Haitian with dignity and self respect would not be caught dead doing business with the Dominicans.
The problem is that many of the Haitian elites who do do business with the Dominicans have no self respect as Haitians--all they have is greed.
I had the displeasure to meet and interact with many of them during my last trip to Haiti, and they had no shame in telling me that when they are in the Dominican Republic they never mention that they are Haitians.
About the treatment of Haitians...it is not just in the DR that Haitians are treated badly.
IT IS EVERYWHERE.
There isn't one country that I have traveled to so far where Haitians are treated with respect.
The reason for this is that during the past 25 or so years, no Haitian government has ever respected the members of its population enough to legitimately be able to demand respect for them at the international level.
Furthermore, during the past 20 or so years, no Haitian government has ever cared enough about the country to demand that other countries treat its citizens with respect.
There are so many ways that the Haitian government can put pressure on the DR so that they can treat our people better.
It's not the means that lacks, it's the will.
By the way, there's a great documentary called Bitter Sugar: Slaves today in the Caribbean, by Maurice Lemoine.
It really empirically details every aspect of the traumatic relationship bet. the DR and Haiti.
After reading it, you may become like me never again be able to stomach another Dominican or their Haitian cronies.
