Hi Sebastien; I'm a bit hungry, after grading papers all day, so I can't read the whole of what you wrote right now. But, I'll respond right now to a little to what I did read so far. So, here we go:
I think you misread or misunderstood what I wrote.
I am absolutely against the idea of looking at slavery as an excuse for our inability to prosper.
The opposite is true. I would not have said this, first because I believe that why we prospered so little in the past is very different from why we have a completely failed state today.
What I said was that Haitians used to look at their history with pride.
Haitians used to know how they led the way for blacks all over the world to understand that "black" is not inferior to any other race. Haitians use to know that they, not only kicked the French out, but paid them all their blackmail for peace money (which by the way was a mistake).
Haitians used to know many things that made them proud.
A proud individual a more likely to strive for greatness than one who is not. A proud individual always looks to what's better not worst for him and his. A proud individual is more likely to find ways for his nation to prosper because he sees that as a reflection on himself.
One learns national pride through historical knowledge of a vainglorious past that is described to them through history books.
Nations that have horrible histories, such as the US, change their history to make it look great for their history books.
85% of the Haitian people in Haiti can't be proud because they don't know how to read. You need to be able to read to learn about your history.
Just like, you need to know how to read to be able to learn about the people your going to vote for. Hence, if 85% of your population can't read than 85% of your population will vote for gutter rats like the ones in office now, because they believe the verbal jive that is sold to them.
OK, so gotta go, brain is going on pause from a lack of nourishment.
Will check later to see what you said or will say.
