I think many of you misunderstood my statement.
My comment actually had little to do with whether or not Haiti is actually improving.
My comment was strictly about Western hegemony and the fact that "hegemony" is always part of their agenda.
In other words "control for their own benefit" is always at the root of why they do what they do. For example, a positive statement made by the US about another country most times has little to do with that country's true progress.
It usually has to do with whether or not that country's government is doing something that benefits US agenda.
That does not mean that what that country's government is doing is bad, or that that country is not progressing.
It simply means that, at least for now, that country's agenda does not conflict with Western profit.
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
On the other hand, we know from history that once a country starts really focusing on the well being of it's own people and that that focus leads them away from US control the bad press usually starts, even if what is being done is actually what is good for the country.
So all that I was trying to say in my post was that the reality is that if really strong progress was being made for the Haitian people--specially the Haitian poor--the Haitian government would be getting some very strong criticism for being leftist.
US corporations feeling threatened would most likely be spending lots of money to discredit the president's efforts.
So all that can be said about what the president is doing now is that it is somewhat so minor that the West probably perceives it as irrelevant and un-consequential.
