Every society has its particular way to initiate its owns into gender role. A few example form Haiti that I remember is: Boys play with "Billes", girls play with dolls.

Guys play football, girls play volleyball, Boys tend to "Filer Cap" more than girls do. Girls play aux "osselets" more than guys do. Young ladies become "Machand fritailles" more than young men do. Men play "Bezike" more than women do etc, etc. All aforementioned are just a reflection of a society and its way to teach gender role and heterosexuality to its youth.

Homosexuality was not part of the social norm, because partly, it does not produce offspring, thus not productive to society.

It also create a socioeconomic imbalance since men, in general, make more money than women.

If two men get together, than it leaves women on the sidewalk who already make less money.

The man is not there to help her carry the financial burden of housekeeping.

Homosexuality is a sin just like eating meat on Friday is a sin, like not taking your mother and father to Sunday Mass is a sin. In another word you have to follow the "Ten Commandments".

Unfortunately society has changed a lot...

since the "Ten Commandments".

Basically, biologically speaking there is no great difference between a man and a woman except for the "Y" chromosome for men and "X" chromosome for women.

All other differences are superficial and culturally learned, and as usual, it always boils down to one thing:economics.

Remember that lower socioeconomic women are never seen the same way as their upper counterparts.

Men and Women always share and carry heavy material around as if they were physically equal.

That goes double for women and men of color (the field work was performed by both men and women equally during that awful slavery time).

The notion that women are weaker pertained to socioeconomic echelon women especially White women.

This is why when a guy open the door for a woman, he thinks he is acting like a gentleman, or when a stranger on the street offer to carry a heavy bag for a woman is following the same principle.

To make a long story short, society is changing.

Parents spend as much money on educating their sons as they would on educating their daughters.

Women got their real first brake in the forties (1940's) during the World wars. They had a chance to be on their own, make their own decisions because the men were away fighting.

Female got jobs as factory workers and telephone operators or clerical workers.

During the 60's, all hell broke loose, when young people both male and female rebel against the Vietnam war. lost faith in America and was practicing free love with the help of the birth control pill (the pill was a true liberator for women) the micro-mini skirt and burning bras were the tools.

Modern women make a big dent in becoming financially independent and are quite equal to men. The line is very blurring now as to the gender role between male and female.

Aside from housekeeping duties such as cleaning the house, taking garbage out, feed the children and care for them are not necessarily the role of the female anymore.

Male partners are doing them just as well and on a very consistent basis.

Even sexual norm between heterosexuals are changing...with the help of technology, role reversal is truly possible...

on an intimate basis both partners understand what it is like to be a male or a female on a sexual context.

As far that I know there are no scientist who are doing any kind of experiments on the public.

There are no scientists who are changing how people look. Even with the sex change operation, there are visible signs of operation.

You still have control over your body and nobody should or could tell you differently.

The last time I was in Haiti was for Aristide's first inauguration in the early 90's and I can assure you that I have seen Haitian men holding hands and kissing on the streets of Port-au-Prince.

If I did not see it, I would not have believe it. Then went to Cap-Haitien, at the Citadelle, It was worst, I saw even more Haitian men holding hand and look intimate.

The person who was with me saw the look on my face and said: OU pat kon sa?

After awhile, I pay no mind to them.
Yes, I believe in LIVE and LET LIVE. This is a notion that we have yet to strive for. Anyone who is practicing inclusion and exclusion is not trying to move Haiti forward as he or she is thinking with the same mentality of status quo and is not progressive.

Trust me, I could find myself something else to do instead of posting here, but I thought that I would help by giving you an idea on role, gender, and sexuality role. Then you can continue doing your own research on that basis.

If I can help bringing awareness to this blog, I think my mission is done.
All I can do is try. Some people will like it, and some won't. This is just fine with me. Progress will continue anyway.
