Hey T.
I don't believe that we can follow one economic principles applied to one Country, copy it straight forward to Haiti.
However, we can decide on one generic economic style and make it our own. T., I don't know where you are getting your information from, but I would suggest that you do some comparative shopping from some other places.
We do have severe problems with America, this is undeniably true;but if you noticed, is very consistent with each and every Country that happened to be a Country of Color, small economically, and primarily agrarian.The only difference about most of them and us, is that our ENTIRE economy depends on USA.Even our bulk Diaspora, the main staple of our economy is from US. Unless, we, Haitians, understand that there is no moving away from this one. We MUST face this situation, before moving past it. We have got to own this issue lock, stock,barrel, porte fermee a clef et tout. We cannot move away from this one.We have got to end economic dependency as we have it today.
In order for us to bargain as equals with others, we must engage in an exchange of services or goods.
Basically we have a huge pool of a very young labor force;
sumptuous coastal beaches;
presumably some natural resources (we need to take inventory).
This is what we have to offer.
Who wants to buy?
How much?
How long a period of time?
What exactly is our debt vis-a-vis America?
We can't call it quit with Americans and can possibly think that they will turn around to rubber-stamp it...
Personally, I believe construction is better than complete demolition.
I don't see a problem dealing with Americans, except that WE have to give them boundaries on what is acceptable or not.
I must admit that after the Quake, Haitians were completely ignored in the rebuilding effort...or whatever that was....That should not have been tolerated from our Government, then again you might say what Government?
If we had our own money, government would have been more responsive to us. Because WE would be PAYING them.
I think Martelly had something today when he was talking to the public about simple gardening tools, real agricultural start ups. He was talking reality.
Martelly touched on some issues of our own like inclusiveness rather than exclusiveness.
This blog is a good example of it. We need to learn how to get along with outsiders.
If we can't get along with bloggers who happened not to be Haitians, how will we get along with them in life proper?
How will we do business with them?
How will we get in this global partnership business?
I am not advocating for submissiveness but we must refrain from excessive attacks ...We need to understand where others are coming from...perhaps, even when they are out of place, we won't assume that it is a personal attack.
