Seriously, this is a situation that would have overwhelmed almost any third world leader.

That is not, however, an excuse for their absence.

Preval and Bellerive don't seem to have good advisors.

So, no one was telling (and is still not telling) them to go out there and comfort the population, to let the public know what they are doing, etc. Also, these guys are not media savvy.

Immediately in the aftermath of the earthquake, they could have used the international press to communicate with the public.

They could have used the local media to give updates on a variety of matters.

They did not do so, and they are still not doing so.
