Tiba,
I also agree with you on the statements that you made. You obviously have watched Haiti and how our people have evolved (or not) and you, like many others, understand that there is a problem.
To every action there is a reaction.
You spelled out the cause and effects as to what you believe (agreed) is the reason(s) behind the disarray of Haitians.
You also provided some very nice pieces of history concerning hygiene in Haiti.
I'm very glad you brought that up; good hygiene education is another thing that some of our people lack. You touched it right on the nose regarding the etiquette of many Haitians from all walks of life. Thank you.
And you're right, I understand that people are a product of their environment, so when people are hungry, bored, stressed, living in poverty, despaired, illiterate, and most importantly powerless, they react negatively and the same is true for the opposite.
Nevertheless, Tiba, if a better way presents itself; it's even a more depressing state not to take advantage of it.
While Haiti is a third-world country to those living abroad, Haiti sits right under the richest country in the world and its surrounding islands are not to far fetch.
Are you (not directed at you specifically Tiba) telling me that we have learned nothing about what it is to be a republic, capitalism, education, the economy, mannerisms--besides the few bums they deport back to Haiti, and I use the word bum loosely because I know not everyone who was deported fit in that category)?
If by now we have not jumped on board, then when?
When is a good time for Haitians to acquire, or begin to acquire, the knowledge, skills, the charisma, the can-do attitude for the betterment of their country and future generations, if not now?
