Hey, it's great that you had a chance to read Lawless, who did one of the few true scholarly empirical studies on Haiti.

And yes, I totally agree with how far back the problem with Haitian bad PR goes. I didn't bring that aspect of it up because I often try to limit my responses.

I can't remember if it was Lawless or Trouillot (hope you had a chance to read some of his great works on Haiti) who said that our tiny little island (relatively) received more bad PR than any other nation.

However, bad PR is not the same as bad treatment.

Prior to the 1980s the poor treatment of Haitians was not wide spread in the international community.

What happened in the DR was the exception not the rule. On the other hand, today, our Haitian citizens are being mistreated and humiliated around the globe.
