Dear Tiba-

The Apostle Paul teaches us in I Timothy 2:1-3a "I urge then first of all that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

This is good and pleases God our Savior..."

The Apostle Peter teaches us I Peter 2:17 "Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king."

It is our duty from God to ask HIM to help the leaders of our country and our local officials, whether we voted for them or not. We need to pray for God to give them wisdom, good health, and to bless their families.

We do not have an obligation to support their policies, to vote to re-elect them, or to elect their cronies and preferred successors.

If your candidate wins, pray God's blessings and guidance upon him or her. If your candidate loses, do the same for the winners.

It is appropriate to oppose policies or acts that you think are wrong.

Only seek God's help for whomever ends up actually governing us. I detest the president of my country, but I often ask God's help for him as leader of the nation and in his personal life. Incidentally if Preval repents of his undoubtedly many sins, and seeks Jesus to forgive him, rejoice.

You, also worthy of Hell, are offered the same mercy if you repent and receive Him into your heart and life. May God grant forgiveness, grace, and everlasting life to both Preval and to you!
