Tiba, you hit the nail right on the head. A lot of our people do like to show off and gossip.

My cousin was dating this girl and she was going to Haiti on vacation before she left she borrowed jewelry to wear when she gets there.

She said she wanted to wear something different everyday while she was down there.

All i kept thinking was doesn't this girl realize how dangerous this can be. All she cared about was making people in Haiti think that she was living this extravagant lifestyle in the US.

The first time i went back to Haiti, i was on a bus heading back to Port-Au-Prince.

My parents were sitting closer the front of the bus, my little brother and I were sitting about four seats behind them. There was a woman sitting in front of me and she was talking with some guy.

My guess is she went to Haiti on vacation.

She was just making up stories and portraying the US as paradise on earth.

I kept thinking to myself why. Finally i said to my brother in English can you believe your ears?

And we just continued talking.

When she heard us speaking English and realize we were from the US as well, she immediately stopped and started talking about something else.

I'm not gonna lie speaking in English was my way of saying "lady will you stop with your lies".

I really don't understand why people go to Haiti and find it necessary to show off or portray the US as some paradise.
