Zac,
Sorry for replying to a post not addressed to me. Your friend is right.
I did talk to a few officers I work with to verify the information.
I was told that to be an officer you must meet certain criteria such as A) you must be a US Citizen, and a college graduate.
Other inquisitions confirm these requirements among many others:
You must attend the Officer Candidate School (OCS) located at Fort Benning, GA. To attend Officer Candidate School, you must be a U.S. Citizen and a college graduate, at least 18 years old but not older than 40. (goarmy.com/ocs/)
In general, to be a US military officer one must:
•Be US citizen
Have at least a 4-year college degree prior to entering the Army
•Earn a minimum 110 GT score on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
•Meet the minimum height and weight standard (male& female)
•Pass a complete physical at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS)
•Able to obtain a security clearance
•No more than 10 years' active Federal Service at time of commission
•Be able to meet the normal requirements of enlistment (ref: "So, You Want to Be an Officer?
Part II - - Army OCS, By Rod Powers, About.com)
There are three categories of OCS candidates: College Graduates (civilians), current military (enlisted) and direct commission (doctors, lawyers, chaplains, etc.)
If a candidate to the Haitian presidency was a military officer in the US army, he is automatically disqualified to be president, because he had "renounced to his Haitian citizenship/nationality"> Our constitution is clear about that.
