Excellent article! I take my hat off to you. Bravo! Bravo!

To be honest, I was filled of emotion reading the whole thing.

Gerard, your excellent piece, nevertheless, comes with good news and bad. The GOOD news is that most of us Haitians know very well about this part of history, and trust me when I say even illeterate Haitians know about it.

But the BAD news is that Americans do not know, nor aware the existence of this part of history you talked about so eloquently.

I always wonder why this part of history is being kept from the American people.

Shouldn't they need to know?

Or is it because it's not an important history enough that is worht telling to the people of the United States?

Sadly enough, I coudln't never find the answer of any of these questions.

I can't help but to notice every 4th of July, history lessons being giving on television, radio, newspapers, and the internet about the United States giving refuge to people from around the world.

They would show Haitians on leaky boats risking their live trying to make it to Miami's shores.

But not one could ever say to the American people these Haitians who are risking their lives on leaky boats trying to reach Miami were those same Haitians, once upon a time, who bled and died to give us this country.

These are the Haitians who gave us the freedom that were are enjoying today.

American have learned about the contributions of all other countries made to the United States, and they accept it so much that they celebrate many of them every year. Why they are not told about the greatest gift, the greatest contribution that Haitians have made to the United States?

Even though that might not change anything, but I feel and believe it is time that the Americans know about Haitian's contribution to this country.

May the story be told to the American people!
