HAITI MUST NOT DIE - AYITI PAP MOURI
February 9, 2010

On January 12, 2010 is a date that the Haitian people will never forget.

They will always remember the day of great sorrow for our nation, but it should also be considered as the first day of the Haitian Renaissance.

Because Haiti is reborn from the rubble created by the deadliest earthquake in history.

Indeed, in the space of 36 seconds, this powerful earthquake that rocked the country has resulted in the deaths of about 250,000 people, left more than 500,000 wounded and created 1.5 million homeless in a country where 72% of the population already lived in a cruel misery.

In addition, most public buildings in the capital are destroyed and the surrounding suburbs are in ruins, and the cities of Leogane, Grand Goave, Petit-Goave and Jacmel.

So many mothers, fathers, relatives mourned loved ones who disappeared as the world has heard our cries of pain. And the world is also ready to accompany the Haitian people in a broad effort to help rebuild his country.

But the first hurdle we have to make this major project is the presence of an irresponsible government, without vision and corrupt head of the Haitian State.

If such a government remains in power, is sentenced to death for the people.

Thus, we urge the government to relinquish power so strong that the country because HAITI MUST NOT DIE!
The Haitian government has given evidence of his irresponsibility at the time of the disaster that struck the Haitian people deeply.

Indeed:
For about three years, prominent researchers, Haitian and foreign, said they had noticed signs announcing that the country's capital, Port-au-Prince, ran the risk of being struck by a powerful earthquake.

At this point, however, that the government had chosen to block programs that sought to decentralize the capital and to decentralize the country.

These programs would not have prevented the earthquake take place, but they could save thousands of lives.

In the early days following the earthquake, the government was nowhere in sight, hence the impression that the main representatives of the authorities of the republic had all disparusous the ruins of public buildings.

When they surfaced, it was to complain about their own problem.

Even the President of the Republic, René Préval, in his first statement, complained of having lost his "palace" and his house and had not seized the opportunity, preferably, to launch a word of encouragement and solidarity with the people he had abandoned to his fate.
Countries that have generously come to the aid of the Haitian people have been highly criticized by the prime minister and the President himself, instead of being thanked for their effort and dedication.

The government has not even shown he had the ability to coordinate the massive relief arriving in the country, identifying the points where such relief should be granted to victims.

The authorities had not even made a small effort to save the corpses that had been gathered in the streets and under the rubble.

They were dumped, unceremoniously in mass graves, in defiance of all human dignity.

Yet, simple measures could create a registry of missing persons.

Thus, before being taken to the grave, a photograph could be taken of each carcass using a small digital camera that can hold thousands of pictures in microfilm.

The treatment given to these bodies of victims at this sorrowful event, shows very little respect this government has for the Haitian people.

The Government after 18 days did not have a clear vision of how to get the country out of crisis created by the disaster and enable millions of people who have been affected to resume normal lives.

The government had not declared a state of emergency immediately after the disaster, to facilitate the distribution of relief supplies to victims.

Now he does not the public informed of how it intends to ensure that the hundreds of thousands of people who sleep under the stars will receive adequate shelter for protection during the rainy season arrives.

Nothing is said, not on the after-care crisis and the media that will be made to people traumatized, wounded in his pride and is forced to rely on assistance to survive.

Hundreds of thousands of people who had moved to get shelter in the provinces already returning to the capital because the government had not taken appropriate measures to strengthen the cities welcomed the newcomers, even with a plan minimum, to find them a suitable home and temporary work.
The government said no to the people in what context the country's reconstruction will be undertaken as the physical, the economic and sociopolitical context.

President Préval and his cabinet members are content to repeat the terms of devolution and decentralization which they do not believe and have always fought.

The image projected by the corrupt government casts doubts on the government's ability to be a valid interlocutor for those who want to offer help to rebuild the country, and also the possibility for the government to manage the integrity aid entrusted to it.
Because the government is known to be one of the most corrupt in the world.

President Preval commits that his buddies in government with whom he can steal and pillage without restraint and without shame.

The state funds are placed in foreign banks and used to buy houses abroad, have been used to build hospitals and schools with the Haitian people as needed.

The international press reported on state funds that have disappeared and those who govern us have had no decency to even apologize to the people, but simply to accuse one another as What the people they could find extenuating circumstances.

The corruption of those who govern us is the greatest shame of the nation of Haiti today.

The members of the international community are obliged to note that they must help rebuild the country, they have two choices:
The first would be to work with a government that has a sense of responsibility in this time of crisis in Haiti, which has a clear vision of the country's future and direction to achieve results, to improve living conditions the Haitian people, especially the weakest are in need. This government must be formed of leaders who have a sense of public good and respect for funds to be allocated to Haiti.

Otherwise, the international community is prepared to intervene on the ground without the participation of the Haitian Government, considered too corrupt, inefficient and irresponsible.

So in this case, the entire reconstruction effort will be placed in the hands of envoys appointed by international organizations.

The Haitian authorities, indeed, have not yet made so far, how they intend to put people to work in rebuilding the country so that people will not be reduced to living in assisting all levels for a very long time. Already, the government missed the opportunity to immediately launch a program of tree planting, basic education, job creation and support for people who voluntarily left the capital to seek refuge in the provinces.

This government, he was responsible would have asked the international community for urgent aid to finance these programs that have encouraged people to remain displaced in the provinces and start and decentralization of the country without any delay.

Given the government's inability to take up the situation in hand to restore confidence in the population, want to outside observers to conclude that the country can no longer govern itself.

So the risk to the country under foreign occupation is becoming increasingly evident.

Thus, the Haitian people in the 10 geographical departments of the country and the diaspora, can no longer continue to accept the government's failings without reacting.

If we accept anything, we gave the right to treat us as one anyhow.

The sovereignty of the country is in danger.

So the government must go, because Haiti does not die as an independent nation.

Thus we members of the Movement of February 9, demandonsla resignation of Preval Government / Bellerive in the shortest time and support the country by a government responsible and accountable, able to intervene effectively in the areas that plague the nation and is composed of men and women on that plane no suspicion of corruption.

We demand that this change be adopted as quickly as possible before it is too late. Otherwise, the Haitian people will be mobilized throughout the country to require compliance with this claim.

Thus, we ask, too, political parties, political organizations, civic and religious, professional and trade union leaders and personalities from all sectors of the country and abroad, elected officials of both legislative chambers, town halls and village districts who want to join the MOVEMENT OF February 9 to send a note of support to the following address:
