Dieudonne Lamothe: Haitian Racer Pride Found.

It has come of great shock to me when I realized it was him, or at least when I heard he was called by the name by another friend of his that day. Instantly, the name ranged a bell and for a moment in my mind, I was asking myself: Where have I heard that name before?

Why is this name striking so much nerves in me?

At first the common Haitian soccer song came to my mind, the one the nation sang for Manno Sanon.

Still, that was not it; but deep inside I know this name should mean something to Haiti and my mind continued to wonder...

It was not long before he was ready to depart this Haitian Restaurant where I frequent often that I thought of this common classical song that I grew up hearing most Haitians like to play at their weddings as well as at many other sportive events in the news when they want to show great victories and encouraging stories of great athletes.

Most younger generation Haitians may not know of him, but most of Haitians having lived through both Duvalier Regime should know of him and perhaps even of what he has represented for Haiti.

There are many great Haitians who have gone above and beyond giving so much for Haiti and its pride.

The Idea that most Haitians living either in Haiti and abroad do not even speak of those great Haitians today, much less some do not remember or even know of them is alarming enough to show just how much Haiti and its people have lost their pride and the originality of their roots.

I have come to realize that the word SUPPORT have come to mean nothing in Haitian communities anywhere.

Artists, athletes have came and gone without ever given great Haitian honor and proper merit.

This has brought to mind this alarming question and wonder: What would happen of Wyclef Jean one day, years from now when he is no longer in the Haitian Public eye?

What role would he have then and how much would any other later generation will know of Wyclef Jean?

Emmanuel "Manno" Sanon have died recently last year no great tributes was given to his ; much less, the public would not have even remembered him has it not been due and beacause I Haiti's near soccer victory that took place in Korea this past 2007 that Manno Sanon re-emerged and has commented on this near victory.

Other than that, no Haitians would have ever known of his story in this generation we live in now.

Haitian parents are raising their kids here in the USA with much lack of proper Haitian History, inspiration and culture which have let those kids to not have any true great sense of pride to even be Haitian.

Most of them often have gone the greatest lengnth to hide their Haitian originality among their other peers in their communities who are not Haitians due to the many negativities and bad cortations they have been exposed to about Haiti in the news along with built up resentments the other kids may have towards many Haitians due to what they have been told about Haiti's exploited impoverish conditions and social status throughout the world.

Anyhow, to get back to my great encounter with the Great DIEUDONNE LAMOTHE, a Haitian whom have participated and represented Haiti in many Marathons and Olympic games, winning medals for his homeland country is still graciously alive.

However, what has came of great shock to me was the condition of his living condition now is to my opinion "unacceptable" for such a guy who has given so much for the pride of his country.

Perhaps he may not have any problem accepting his outcome in life living like a regular among us as to compared to the live he has known with the live he could have lived had their been any kind of meaning of the word SUPPORT in the heart of Haitians, the Haitian Government and Haitian communities in Haiti or abroad.

Many would perhaps make much of nothing this, but in many aspects of symbolism and looking at Haiti's situation, much is significantly can be made of this as to explain why perhaps Haiti and its people are facing such tribulations.

Haiti could have been or perhaps is a poor country, but Haiti would not have to be a country without its inspirational pride, originality and roots.
