Paul G. Magloire,
You are preaching to the choir my friend!
My frustration with certain Haitians is that they believe they are the only ones who love Haiti, who care about Haiti, and therefore, have the best ideas, and the best plans of action for Haiti, and you cannot differ.
All we, as civilians, and good citizens, can do is talking and brain storming and that is as far as we can go. We all have our God's given rights to have different ideas and plans to accomplish the goals we want for our country.
In that plan you just presented you keep referring to "we", "we", "we" when you should mention the government.
The truth of the matter is, the international community will be giving the $300 million that you mentioned to the government of Preval and not to you, me, or to the Haitian citizens.
It is a pure missinformation to believe we can bypass the government and take charge/control to rebuild Haiti.
Whether we like it or not, and as much as I hate to admit it, there is a government in Haiti that the international recognizes and will work with and only. All money for the reconstruction of the country will go directly to the government of Preval, so please let start being realistic first before we start talking about anything.
Just a few days after the quake I suggested that the government moves to Cap-Haitian temporarily, but Preval decided to move his government at the airport instead directing traffic.
Preval's government claimed to be too broke to buy 25,000 tents to provide shelter to the vitims and keep them dry during the rainy season.
He is still waiting on the master to tell him what to do.
I had also suggested the evacuation of P-A-P soon after the quake in order to ease up the cleaning and the reconstruction efforts.
As you just mentioned, I had suggested that they use those big blackhuk helicopters to airlift the victims, naval ships, and ground transporation to move the victims to various parts of the country.
A good and competent government must focus on the welfare and the safety of the people/victims first and foremost.
That is the role, the duty, and the responsibility of any decent government that has any respect and consideration for their citizens.
Now, I am not saying this is the best cource of action, but this is the suggestions that I can come up with for the time being.
Nothing is written on stone because the government has the last word.
You plan seems to me as a long-term when my plan is a short-term, immidiate one.
Unfortunately, the last word of the government, especially the government of Preval, is always another blow for the Haitian people, but this is what we, Haitians, have in our hands to deal with.
