Hello.
Thank you for responding to my message.
I am glad to see that you care about Haiti as well. A little bit about myself: I am a retired entertainment promoter from New York City. I now live in the Dominican Republic (at least half of the time).
I got to care about Haiti when I first visited the Dominican Republic years ago and saw how bad the Haitians were treated there.
I visited the sugar cane plantations and witnessed the atrocities and horrible working conditions that the Dominicans were imposing on Haitians.
I studied the history of the island in depth and studied the Trujillo era when he gave orders to murder some 30,000 Haitians at the border.
The irony is that Trujillo was part Haitian.
His grandmother was Haitian.
He used to use white powder/make-up to hide his African characteristics.
I also realized that Dominicans themselves are 50% Haitians.
However, they deny their African ancestry.
The Dominicans are more mulattoes than Haitians because of the mix of mainly Spaniards and other Europeans while 80% of Haitians remained pure African blood.
I learned that the animosity between the Dominicans and Haitians is due partly because Haiti occupied the Dominican Republic for over 25 years.
However, what the Dominicans fail to realize is that Haitians delivered them from slavery twice and advocated on their behalf to be independent from Spain.
After seing the injustices that Haitians are suffering in general; not only in the hands of the Dominicans but internationally, I decided to become somewhat an Haitian activist.
My main goal is to find permanent solutions for Haiti.
I feel that charities are good and giving to the poor is good but it is only a bandage.
Tomorrow they will be hungry again.
Permanent solutions have to be found.
I do not expect Haiti to be like Paradise Island in the Bahamas overnight but I believe it can be at least like Trinidad and Tobago or Curacao with some sort of stability.
Therefore, what I try to do is offer concrete solutions to the Haitian natives and Haitian diaspora so that they can make noise and approach the Preval administration and get changes to happen as soon possible.
If you have any concrete ideas to help Haiti and actions we can take please let me know. I also would like to know about you and your involvement in Haiti.
Furthermore, there is a Preval blog that I found.
I recently posted some thoughts on the Tortuga Project.
Please read my posts and other posts.
Some other people have very good ideas on how to fix Haiti.
Now, I do not know if this particular site is an official Preval administration site (It is probably not because no one from the Preval administration ever responded to anything).
However, we hope that someone in the administration at least read the posts.
It would be wise for them to monitor what the Haitian population think about the administration and they can pick up some excellent proposals.
If you do not mind I will post this e-mail in the blog under the Tortuga Project.
You can join the blog if you wish. I am a man of action but it is good to talk and see how people feel about issues as well.
Here is the link for the blog
