The same old negative stuff that keeps holding Haitians back. One way to improve the economy is through tourism, but first you have to attract tourist and keep them coming back. Although Haiti has some fine hotels history and entertainement, the the entire country is in need of some serious beautification.
Nothing turns people off more than decrepid looking buildings and poor people selling their goods in unsanitary conditions.
There is nothing wrong with being poor but at least be poor with dignity.
OK tourism is one way the next thing would be to improve the farmers ability to produce goods for export and national consumption.
The government should impose limits on goods coming from foreign countries, which compete and discourage local farmer.
This might be easier said than done since many of the countries exporting their goods to Haiti are also providing vital AID. Birth control.
At the rate Haiti is going in 25 years it will be a country of 9 Million people.
Thats a lot of people on only 10,000 square miles of land, most of it not suited for farming.
So far the past and current governments have turned a blind eye to this problem hoping that it goes away, but as so often happens in Haiti the problems does not go awy and it becomes a catastrophy.
Now how is it that countries like the Bahamas and Barbados have incomes 10 times that of Haitians.
What are they doing that we should know about?
Industry.
Other than a few state run enterprises Haiti is virtually devoid of any industry.
Are haitians lacking in management and industrial skills.
No, there are many successful business owners in Haiti and the diaspora, unfortunately the low incomes in Haiti prevent any growth of these businesses.
The topic is: HAITI'S ECONOMY/ HOW TO IMPROVE IT!
