I don't think there is any document proving the Chevalier ancestors of Trujillo were descendants of a French marquis, doctor or whatever, as it was told in several Domincian books published in the Trujillo era, and recently in the biography of Trujillo written by his daughter Angelita.

To me it seems more likely to think that Diyetta Chevalier, his grandmother, was a plain and simple Haitian woman, with no known aristocratic connections to the French families -but of course that was not pleasant for Trujillo, who was the main resposible of a terrible massacre of Haitian inmigrants in 1937. Also, for his sons and daughters, who loved to live among the rich and famous in Europe and the U. S., was certainly fancier to say they came from a French aristocrat and not from an Haitian commoner of "mixed blood".

Now during this new witch hunt in Haiti let me ask this question:Are those people are Haitians? What about Joe Truillot, Eartha Trouillot > >
John Joseph, 11-Apr-10 5:44 pm
All the Trouillots are from Dominican Republic and they migrated to Haiti after the assassination of Trujillo in 1961 and they had changed their names from Trujillo to Trouillot like Asalib to Saliba, Mews to Mirtz, Brand to Brandt and so on... > >
