CHICAGO (AP) -- Wyclef Jean says he feels he must continue working on relief efforts in his native Haiti.
The singer and producer spoke Sunday on the last day of the Nation of Islam's Saviours' Day convention.
Jean told the thousands gathered at Chicago's United Center about his life growing up poor in Haiti, including how he was born in a hut. He says he felt lucky when he moved into public housing in New York.
Jean has worked on relief efforts since the Jan. 12 earthquake, particularly through his Yele Haiti Foundation.
He says he feels it's the thing he was called to do.
Jean spoke before the Minister Louis Farrakhan was expected to give a keynote address.
Sunday's events also included a performance by R&B artist Raheem DeVaughn.
