My parents went to Haiti last month, when my mom got back she told me all the talks in Port-Au-Prince were about Bill Clinton being assigned as special envoy to Haiti and the eventual candidacy of Mrs. Manigat for president.

I googled her and this is what i found out about her so far. My research seems to confirm what Tiba said about her. Now the article I read was in French, my french is terrible but I think I got the basics of the article.

It said she was a senatorial candidate for Port-Au-Prince in 2006. I think she actually won the seat but she then pulled out.

The article also said that her husband Leslie Manigat was Preval's challenger in 06. He (Leslie) requested a second round but (kabrit la te mal koche) (lol) Preval won in the first round of the election.

Maybe the reason she pulled out was because she was upset about what happened to her husband or maybe her husband actually told her to pull out.

Leslie Manigat said then, that preval didn't really win the 50+ percentage that he needed to win in the first round.

If she cannot make decisions independently of her husband then maybe she's not mature enough to be president.

The topic is: Mme Manigat for next President of Haiti!

Zac, You google search came out 100% accurate. That is exactly what I was told. She did indeed win the seat but because her husband lost the lection to Preval, he was disgusted, and therefore ordered his wife not to take the seat she had just wo > >
