La vraie mission de l'ex-président William Jefferson Clinton en Haïti, en tant que représentant du secrétaire général des Nations unies demeure encore occulte.

Toutefois, s'il faut s'en tenir aux gestes, aux déclarations visant à rassurer les uns et les autres, on finira par percer le grand mystère.

En tout cas, le désir attribué à l'ancien locataire de la Maison-Blanche, à Washington, de vouloir loger son bureau au Palais national, est loin de lui prêter un rôle inoffensif.

Un des hommes du président haïtien fulmine en racontant ce qu'il assimile à une « indé - cence flagrante » de l'ancien président américain qui, dit-il, aurait demandé au président Préval de loger ses bureaux au Palais national.

Sans fournir plus de détails concernant une telle demande, il a laissé entendre que le chef de l'État haïtien aurait été pris de court et ne saurait quelle réponse donnée, d'autant plus que son entourage immédiat se rebiffe contre cette l'idée. En tout cas, cette proposition, dont la nature n'est pas tout à fait bien comprise
