I really don't quite understand your rational/logic fo being against "dual citizenship." It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
First of all, US has "Extradition" treaties with many other countries.
The only thing I hate about the US-Haiti extradition treaty is that it works only one way. For example, only US can come to Haiti looking/arresting someone who has committed a crime in the US, but Haiti cannot go to US looking/arresting anyone who fled Haiti for crime committed in Haiti.
Second, there is no difference having someone with dual citizenship as president in Haiti nor someone who has never renounced to their Haitian nationality as president in Haiti, due to the extradition treaty, US will still go to Haiti to arrest someone who has committed crime in the US at any moment noticed, any day, any time, 24/7
That's why I don't quite understand your logic for being against dual citizenship.
Third, it is naive, and even irresponsible to believe that all of those Haitians who are in favor of dual citizenship it is because they all want to be president or holding a governmental post/job. That is not true my friends.
It's a false perception to believe that. However, all those Haitians may want to have the rights to vote and involved in Haiti's political affairs, which is supposed to be the rights of all Haitian citizens.
Fouth, US has been going to Haiti many many times to arrest criminals who fled American justice way back under Jean- Claude Duvalier to this day.
Furthermore, The so-called 10th department which comprises the diaspora (which is the dumbmest and the most stupid thing that I have ever heard) is another tangible reason supporting the need for dual citizenship.
There cannot be a 10th department when those people cannot vote, when they have no say in Haiti's affairs/political affairs, which means either the government considers Haitians living abroad as Haitians with all/full Haitians rights, or the government is just making fun of all Haitians living abroad, pure and simple.
The government cannot have it both ways.
In addition, you sound very unintouched with Haitian reality vis-avis their country, Haiti.
You are questioning Haitian of their patriotic sentiments.
Last time I checked, Haitians are the most patriotic beings ever lived, they love their country, Haiti, more than life itself despite all the odds. Majority of Haitian who left Haiti 20, 35 years ago, are still homesick.
They absolutely want to go back home, but the government is purposely creating an atmosphere of fear in Haiti to keep as many Haitian away as possible from coming back.
If Haitians did not love their country so much, Haiti would have sincked to the bottom of the ocean a longtime ago. In 2003 alone, Haitian diaspora sent $800 million to their families in Haiti which kept the economy running.
They have been helping to keep Haiti afloat for a longtime.
Believe it or not, Haiti today, is at the mercy of the diaspora.
If the diaspora would go on a strike a stop sending money to their families which in turn giving a big boost to the economy, it would take only month and half to completely destroy what's left of Haiti's economy.
