history i hate when people tell half truths

< Previous | Home | Next >

I can't stand it when writers even credible ones do not tell the complete truth about Haiti's history: I just read this: "Dessalines tried to establish ties between the black and mulattoes leadership by encouraging marriages.

The major mulatto military leader Alexandre Petion refused the offer of marriage to a daughter of Dessalines".

True to some extent!! Howerver I read many history books some in French some in English, I know for a fact that Petion refused to marry Dessaline's daughter according to many books and particularly one written in English come to mind "THE MAKING OF HAITI The Saint Domingue Revolution" by Carolyn E. Fick BECAUSE; " DESSALINE's daughter WAS ALREADY PREGNANT BY ANOTHER MAN" THAT'S WHY PETION REFUSED TO MARRY HER".

Why would a wealthy, and educated hero and a leader like Petion marry an uneducated black woman who was already pregnant by another man?

While Dessaline was married to a beautiful and educated mulatresse known for her virtues.

Both parties have to bring something the other do not have into a marriage.

I just hate to read those half truths or studies written about Haiti some from credible sources too and people repeating that stuff like parrots.

Here is another source to corroborate what I said about "Celimene the daughter of Dessaline" Click to read page:
