The government's second report card

< Previous | Home | Next >

As the new year started, it is wise to analyze how far we have come since the actual government took power.

a) Jobs creation.

Unable to attract investors from the West, the government has turned to investors in the diaspora.

The diaspora, however, is reluctant to invest in the country as acts of violence continue to be perpetrated against them in all impunity.

The assassination of Pierre Marie Bourdeau is the perfect example of how unsafe it is to come back in Haiti.

b) Insecurity
The president has recently blamed bandits for failing to accomplish his promise last year to get rid of insecurity! It is clear that there is no plan to deal with this problem in our country.

Furthermore, the fact that acts of violence are committed against people who are willing to invest in the country and change the situation there seemed part of a strategy to continue to destabilize Haiti and prevent it to get out of its catastrophic situation.

c) Electricity
Port-au-prince is still in the dark comes nighttime.

If the president was sincere about fighting corruption, why not start at the Electricity of Haiti?

The company continues to charge customers exhorbitant amount of money for an electricity that is never delivered.

d) Environment
Not much can be said here. Is there even a desire to deal with our environmental situation?

How many catastrophes and death could be avoided in 2008, if there was a policy in place to plant trees all over the republic?

e) Decentralization
The republic of Port-au-prince has now more than 2 million people living in an area only a few square miles.

It is estimated that this population will double or triple in the next decade.

If you think Port-au-prince is dirty and crowded now, wait ten years from now. May God help us then!

The government's second report card is not much different from the first.

Nothing has changed in substance since this government took power.

Mr. President and Mr. Prime Minister, when will you start addressing the real problems of the population?

God Bless !!!
