Hi, I was not aware of this letter.

Good post by Djakut.

What I do know is Toussaint confided to American Ambassador Andrews that he's waiting for a false move from the French to declare Haiti and the Dominican Republic (The island of Hispaniola/ St. Domingue) independent from France.

Unfortunately, his generals all threw in the towels to early.

The letter is what could be expected from one ruler to another.

However, there is nothing in the letter that betrays the ultimate goal: Independence and an effective end to slavery in St Domingue/ Haiti.

I am happy about that.
Thanks
