Hi, Marie dear patriotic sister
I stopped buying Domino Sugar white or brown years ago. But it is no reflexion entirely on the Dominican people.
The D.R. is just an undevelopped country nation as Haiti although a lot less underdevelopped than us. Well, let us put it in historical perspective so we can all reach the same conclusion.
Both people did not draw the map; the French and the Spaniards did in Traite de Ryswick did. As far as I know the island of Hispaniola could have been one nation.
Once upon a time black Haitians were welcome on the D.R. side but that was before 1804. The D.R. leaders over the years poisonned the mind of the people toward the mostly black Haitians.
The truth is we invaded their territory 7 times between 1802 and 1857; they are really pissed off about the occupation under Jean Pierre Boyer 1821 - 1844. So maybe an official apology is in order.
They massacred our people in 1937 and several times before that. The reality is they are really mad when all encyclopedia stated that they gain their independence from Haiti.
The irony is in 1821, they renamed the D.R. "Spanish Haiti" to honor Haiti.
The heart of the matter is the Dominicans are not the initial investors in the sugar cane in the D.R. Cane cutting is back breaking work and just like during the years of slavery the black person is the only kind of humans with the physical fitness and biological imprints capable of surviving those harsh working conditions.
What we need to do is what Yole & Ansi Derose said in their song 'La roman': nou ta rinmin ou coupe can lakay - we need to put our peasants back to work the land at home.
Thanks
