You said "because if a country has infrastructures, it would never be part of the third world in the first place." Most countries in the world have basic infrastructures, including most poor countries.
The lack of infrastructure means that Haiti is gone beyond the norm or normal poverty.
Yes that's sad, but that does not mean that the country never had an infrastructure.
I cannot you all that you should know about Haiti on a blog, but here are a few good books that might help you. Some are better than others.
Best of luck in reaching new heights through new knowledge.
Let us know what you uncover.
1. The Black Jacobins by C.L.R. James.
(My favorite.
I use it in my class every semester).
2. Any of Michel R. Trouillot's books.
I don't always agree with him, but his research is sound.
Two of my favorites are his old book on San Souci or his Haiti State against Nation
3. Roger Dorsainville's Histoire D'Haiti.
4. Paul Farmer's The Uses of Haiti.
5. Hien and Hien, Written in Blood.
6. David Nicholl's, From Dessalines To Duvalier.
7. Michael Dash. Culture and Customs of Haïti.
8. Roger Gaillard.
Le Guerilla de Batrauille.
(I liked a few things in this one).
9. Robert Lawless.
Haïti's Bad Press.
(Most of it is bias, but he still sticks to basic facts)
Just a few. Some are better than others.
I did not include Flo's author here because he is not a social scientist or even a historian.
He is an English professor who mixes truth with fiction.
And because he is not in the social sciences, he can stray from the truth and no one in his field will call him on it. But maybe you should look at that one too, because he did get his hands on some very pertinent documents about Toussaint.
I have it, but have not yet read it. Good luck.
