"Belle Rive" at Jacmel, Haiti
Jacmel
Jacmel is a place where the raw reality of basic island living crisscrosses with the charming ambiance of an old French era, long gone except for the residual elegance of iron-railed balconies that adorned some of the original homes.

This scenic little town has become the week-end getaway for most Haitian families.

It is a treasured sanctuary with a majestic shoreline bustling with local fishermen.

The streets, uneven, narrow, and strewn with layers of dirt and neglect, are nevertheless busy with street merchants and brightly colored motorbikes, the most popular mode of public and private transportation for a city with a growing population estimated at 40,000. Restaurants, art galleries, historic sites, and natural sites are part of Jacmel's tourist attraction.

Arts, music, and film festivals have become annual events that attract scores of visitors from the Haitian-American Diaspora making Jacmel one of the most preferred destinations for the fun-seeking young Haitian.

As part of a program to revamp the city's infrastructure, the downtown area will be reconfigured to allow tourists ample room to explore the virtually undisturbed colonial accent of its historical dwellings.

The main hospital is being studied for a major overhaul in order to meet the new health challenges of a growing tourist population.

The airport, presently a bare landing strip, has been architecturally studied and approved for construction in the immediate future.

Most importantly, the "Belle Rive" project by the Simact Group, in its present conceptual phase, will define a small seaside resort to be built for the pure enjoyment of life in a spectacular setting.
