We need the private sector

< Previous | Home | Next >

The climate of insecurity that existed in the country several months ago has contributed to the disappearance of the Haitian private sector.

Several entrepreneurs have decided to emigrate to North America, Europe and even to other countries in the Caribbean like the Dominican Republic.

Their input in the country's future is necessary to create jobs and put the country on the road to real development.

Many people remain suspicious however that the recent improvement in security will not last for long. After the departure of the UN troops, there is a good chance that the country will go back to its repeated habit of self-destruction.

A while ago, one of my cousins had to close his business in a hurry and go back to the United States for fear of being kidnapped.

Getting businessmen like him back in the country won't be an easy task. They have seen this country raise so many hopes and fall so many times that they are expecting troubles again at any time.
It will take many years of a stable Haiti before Haitian entrepreneurs decide to come back and invest in their own country.

God bless.
