First he did it, now he didn't.

Joran Van der Sloot, who is spending time in a Peru prison for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old woman, now reportedly claims he didn't kill her.

In an interview with the Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf, the poker-playing playboy says he was intimidated by police and was told he could go home to the Netherlands if he confessed.

"I was tricked," the paper quoted him as saying.

"I'll explain later how it all happened."

Van der Sloot claims he was "scared" when police questioned him. "In my blind panic, I signed everything, but didn't even know what it said," he reportedly told the newspaper.

Changing stories is nothing new with the 22-year-old. He has repeatedly offered admissions to knowing the fate of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, only to retract his statements later.

His mother, Anita Van der Sloot, told De Telegraaf over the weekend that her son was known to tell lies.

"He lied so much, that we became desperate," she is quoted as saying.

"He said to me, too, 'Mom, I sometimes don't know any more if something is a lie or the truth.' Joran is sick in his head, but he didn't want any help."

An ex-lover, Melody Granadillo, recently told ABC News' "20/20" that Van der Sloot would often "lie for no apparent reason at all."

The Dutchman was arrested earlier this month in Chile, after fleeing Peru. He has been charged in the murder of Stephany Flores, a young woman found dead in his Lima hotel room.

According to the reported confession, Van der Sloot struck Flores in his room, choked her with his bare hands, then used his shirt to strangle her.

The gambler has long been the suspect in the 2005 disappearance of 18-year-old Holloway, a high school student who vanished during a trip to Aruba.
