Salut RPT,

I will reply in English, as it would take too long for me to reread and verify my French; and if I wrote French poorly, my mother would laugh at me...so here we go in English.

RPT said: "Je ne parle pas de n'importe quel pays, mais d'Haiti."

Linda replied: I guess that would be my first problem with what you wrote.

Yes indeed there are national identities, however, anyone who has done historical research learns pretty quickly that, as different as all national characters are, all human populations appear to have some basic social commonalities.

These social similarities are relatively the same in all nations.

Hence, in terms of Haiti, the bourgeois have the same common thread as all bourgeois of all nation.

The word bourgeois essentially means merchant class.

In some societies, and in Haiti before the Baby Doc era, the merchant class was not very respected because intelligent people new that only one thing matters to the bourgeois--making money and then more money.

The class I think you wanted to refer to is called the elite or aristocratic class.

Some members of that social group do own businesses, but their money is old money.

Most of the members of those two social groups are much more interested in knowledge than in money (mostly because their ancestors made them financially comfortable already).

Some members of the aristocracy or the elite do not even have money, but they would still be the most cherished citizens of a nation, because the the work of their ancestors for that nation.

For the most part those people are not in Haiti anymore.

Social scientist have a name for what has happened to Haiti; they call it the Brain Drain.

Meaning that all those who are learned in the country have left it, leaving a vacuum that is filled by the nouveau rich (the money makers=bourgeois=new money=still hungry for more money).

New money means that these people only became rich this living cycle or the last two living cycle.

Old money is not bourgeois.

Money makers can't govern, because the only thing they know is how to enrich their own pockets.

So, bourgeois running Haiti: bad idea.

I do agree with you that there are some of the old intellectual groups left in Haiti; those who care for and know their nation's history; those who understand pride and dignity; those who would rather die than sell their country; those who are learned.

But, that group is so small in Haiti it has absolutely no power and no way to get to power.

The masses who will be voting wont even understand that these guys are what the country needs.

The masses who are voting are mostly illiterate or very little read. They will vote for the Aristides and the Preval--gutter rats who know nothing but can talk proverbs and kreole cliches.

Linda replied" I think most of those Haitians would willingly go back to Haiti permanently if they were given the respect of their status as Haitians.

A country like Haiti needs all of its brains; and the fact that these gutter rats in power have played around this, pretending that they can't make it happens shows how low on the intellectual and honor scale they fall.

RPT said: "Neanmoins, il y a un faible pourcentage d'Haitiens bourgeois qui n'ont jamais laisses le pays, car ils ont leurs entreprises."

Linda replied: Those who stayed in Haiti are not trust worthy, because those who stayed in Haiti who were trustworthy are all dead. Those that remained are compromised.

It is because they are not honest and only care about their profit margin that they were able to survive in Haiti during these horrible times.

Only about three families are exceptiona to that rule.

We all have wonderful visions of what Haiti could be. And I remember a time not too long ago when, although not perfect, Haiti had a lot to be proud of.

However, about electing the right person.

Please see the main problem as I listed it for Bernadette.
