O.k., O.K You do have some valid concerns and very good points.

But you can't address all the problems at the same time. This is not too realistic...The international community can't agree with you on what I think you are talking about as it goes against the grain of their vision...It looks like you are knee- deep into shit. That is what politics are all about.

Although I feel a certain tone of sadness as to your safety...The first thing is to assure your well being to the maximum level that you can. Without it, it will be hard to function at your best. I would be very careful as to what the international community is telling you...I have watched them closely at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1994, I did not particularly like what I saw. It seems like you are in full steam ahead for a fight.

I am not sure or agree that you are attacking the right angle of the game at the right time....but this is YOUR game. I don't know you, yet I don't want to lose you as I think you represent HOPE. I am not quite sure whom you are fighting for but I want to make it very clearly to you that I am for the "paysanne" class.

They have literally saved my life on numerous occasions and I have a collective debt vis-avis them.
It will not be as easy as you may think to evacuate the elite families as you think.

They are already prepared and anticipated yours or others move.
As you said they can buy their way out. They have an arsenal of army toys and strong connections.

I agree with you though, the status quo CAN NOT continue.

I think, however, you have a cartoonist view of the Mulattoes.

From the beginning of Haitian History, The Mulattoes, for the most part can identify with both Europe and the Caribbeans.

You, the other brother always thought that Mulattoes did not think Haiti was HOME. That is a mistake.

Mulattoes always thought Haiti is and was home and have fought for it dearly along side with Toussaint Louverture.

I also don't think The Elite class does not want to invest in Haiti; For it would have been against their best interest.

I think it is more like a lack of communication and trust.

Again -- I believe, this is where you come in: open up communication and bargaining chips.

You BOTH want HAITI to prosper.

It is a matter of finding what is beneficial to BOTH of you.
Open communication IS the way to go
Nobody fights with weapons for economical advantage anymore.

Not withstanding chemical and nuclear wars
Both parties stand to lose a lot. Find a middle ground is the best way to go.
You mentioned Haitian students who got humiliated BECAUSE they were Haitians, hell, I can write a book on that one. I had to fight Blacks, Whites, Asians and Latin Americans when I was in school.

You no what I became the Bully and was the LEADER of them all. The point is that there is and will always be a reason to fight for what you believe in and there are always alternatives.

Life has not always been fair to Mulattoes either.

I know a few of my cousins who decided to go out only at night so that they can not be seen doing the day for fear of reprisal.

Got to be always on your toes and guarded
When I am in Haiti, I feel Like someone out of this planet because all eyes are on me. I know I look different and am being reminded everyday.

I never felt more conscious of my being different so much only when I am visiting Haiti.

I have suffered so much pain precisely because I was different, yet knowing Haiti is my own.
I made it a point to joke with merchants at open-air markets as they jack-up the price as I Jew them down by saying: Ah, sa se pri blan, kot pri pam nan?

most often we all laughed together.

Abroad I had to fight for my "Haitianness" as most people don't believe that I am Haitian.

They are accustomed to a different type of Haitians
I had a chance to make it as a model but the contracted agencies did not want me to voice my ethnicity.

On a personal conviction, I walked out from the fame and the money.

All of this is to tell you it is not a picnic.

Most often it is a struggle to be a Mulatto.

You have got to be strong to survive it....in Haiti and abroad.

You guys have a lot easier time and more fun....That is not fair....

The struggle also makes us stronger and see things on many different levels that you guys may have missed.

It is not all fun and game.
In Haiti, I can see a lazy merchant class who is used to not to fight for business as there are no competitions...I have always thought that it is to the detriment of Haiti.

I hope things can change...and certainly will do my part to make it happen.

I am not sure your plan will work. You can always give it a try.
Best wishes,
Bernadette
