Conventional re-forestation methods, as used in North America after logging operations, I suspect cannot be used here. However, where the destruction of the tree cover is extensive and happened a long time ago, the methods used by Israel over the past century probably could be applied here.

The labor force for such a project is available, only the financing presents a problem.

However, I suspect that the international community would be much more interested in investment in Haiti, if they saw that people there were willing to think "from the ground up" when rebuilding.

Re-forestation, besides addressing problems like lack of fuel, mud slides, and water-run off, aims at the carrying capacity problems that this over-populated country has.
