If you don't mind me adding one other important fact. Under Duvalier, there were exchanged students studying in Haiti.

Under Duvalier, you could dropped your walet/purse somewhere in Haiti and come back the next day looking for it, you would find it at the same place you had dropped it.

Under Duvalier, the prisons were full with political prisoners indeed, but no one with a criminal background.

Today is just the opposite.

In fact, crime started to flourish in Haiti under Aristide.
