haiti :: housing solution

< Previous | Home | Next >

Dear President Preval,

There are THOUSANDS of FEMA trailers up for auction in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama for fire sale prices.

Our government purchased 400,000 trailers to house people after Hurricane Katrina, but most of them were never used due to the delayed shipping and an EPA formaldehyde scare.

Now they are being auctioned by the GSA (General Service Administration).

They would be the PERFECT solution to the Haiti housing issue and much better than tent cities.

The current auction ends on 1/29/10. These trailers are housed close to US ports and could be shipped the 900 miles south to Haiti.

They would make excellent accommodations for the displaced and homeless.

In fact, they would probably be an upgrade to their previous homes and could also be used for schools.

I sincerely believe that it would be advantageous to send physical homes rather than donate cash and expect this homes to be built expediously.

There are approximately 87,000 trailers up for auction tomorrow that could house 2 - 5 people each. This would be a significant contribution to the housing situation.

According to the FEMA website, there are many more available to be auctioned over the next several years.

Please visit: gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucindx/ to see what I mean.

I have have emailed the Red Cross, White House, FEMA, World Food Organization and the International Organization for Migration about this GSA auction that ends this week. How can you help me to get the word out?

I'm not sure that agencies will act fast enough and the trailers may get purchased by a private company.

Thank you.
