Sadly you may be right on the leadership problems of Haiti.

I don't know what the problems were with the past leader (the priest) who I understand is in Africa and no longer popular and I had read about the problems with Papa Doc but I lived and worked in Haiti during the time of Baby Doc and have first hand knowledg of the problems that existed then and many of the problems could be traced directly to my boss Ernest Bennett the father-in-law of Baby Doc and Bennets daughter who was married to Baby Doc. His mother was against the wedding and Baby Doc, who was young and somewhat of a playboy (who of us haven't made mistakes in our youth), simply wasn't mature enough to be President.

Reportedly he would doze off during cabinet meetings and his wife would take over and give instructions to cabinet ministers! Haiti deserves better than this growing list of incompetent leaders.

Personally, I think a military government or even the police in charge of the government to restore law and order is better than having a popularity contest to see who is most popular as being popular doesn't mean someone is going to be a good leader or has the best policies for the best interest of the nation.

The U.S. has tried to cram elections down the throats of other governments with very bad results.

Look at problems in Iran due to election disputes and now they are coming to Iraq and no doubt Haiti will soon have the same election disputes about who won and was the vote fair and without corruption, etc. Its not right for the U.S. to try and dictate to other countries the type of government they should have.
