what is a democracy

Many Haitians are unfamiliar with democracy and its principles.

I suppose it is excusable considering we've had so many dictators.

Democracy is government by the people.

The masses freely elect representatives to lead them. Because democracy is government by the people or many. You have different views, ideas which lead to opposition.

Opposition is necessary in a democracy without it you have no democracy.

A lot of people say they want democracy but they go crazy when someone else disagree with them and sometimes they would destroy that the person if they could.

The principles of democracy are freedom, freedom of speech and expression, freedom to speak in favor or against your elected officials without fear. Freedom to do whatever you want as long as it is with the boundaries of the law.
