As far as I know, Mesac Damas is not a suspect.

He is a person of interest, i.e., Law Enforcement is trying to get his cooperation about the murder of his wife and the motive of his quick departure to Haiti.

He may not be the killer.

If he is- and if is charged with first degree murder of the the 6 victims- he might face death, because Death Penalty is the maximum sentence in the State of Florida.

In short, The State of Florida of Law enforcement needs a MOTIVE.

NB: Law Enforcement often used the term "person of interest" instead of "suspect" as a trick to lure the suspect from resisting the cooperation; i.e., they not only get the suspect, but also the get the motive of the crime.
