GonaivesHaiti in the 80's to 1992 Read this

After the depart of Jean Claude Duvalier, the country was started to feel a negative impact and it was started by the lack of power in the around 1986's, than it's gotten worst and still now. I left Gonaives in 1993, as a city that used to be a 24 hours electricity to a very poor and none electricity power system, but the city was still amusing and full of activities.

The young there would go every weekend to some of the popular schools in the city for some basketball, tennis, and soccer games.

At night time, although people in the city was became restricted by the lack of power, yet there were plenty of fun, such as go out on a date, many streets full of people outside gathering and chat about anything they feel. Sometimes, in every year in the 80's, there were some groups dance that would perform break-dance on stage, and also outside.

There usually some loud music play in many part of the city' street, and each of the music were various.

Some would play the main Haitians music genre called Kompa such Tabou combo, Simbie des Gonaives, Zin, ect..; some played freestyle break dance beats songs, which features artists like Steavie B ( was very popular in the 80's by many young in Gonaives ), Johny O, Noel ( "Silent Morning" song was one of the most foreign played song in the 80's by many young Goniviens ), and related type; and some would played reggae songs from favorites artist like Yellowman ( most poular reggea astist in Haiti at that time), General Tree, Bob Marley, and more; least not last, the vodou music, which is part of Haiti's roots culture, usually late night around midnight, you could hear the drum and bambou begin to play with no idea where in town the song is played; sometimes you could hear ir as though it was close while in bed and sometimes you could barely it far away.

Now, every times I'm talking about going back to Haiti, someone tells me "Haiti ou te konin a, se pa min'm Haiti a sa non".

"Poze'w tande".

Haiti that I knew is not the same. They destroyed the country so deep, to the point that all Haitians now have to become citizen to another country to feel secure and proud.
