Zac,

Since 4 or 5 years, Creole has been the mandatory teaching language in the classroom in Haiti but only at the primary/elementary levels, and I believe both French and Creole are allowed in college level.

If you listen to closely you'd realize that most of the presidential speeches are giving in Creole and sometimes in French and Creole.

The problem is, the elite doesn't speak Creole at home nor with their friends.

They all speak French.

For example, like you mentioned your dad's cousin who refuses to teach Creole to his kids, well, I know this girl, she is the daughter of my best friend, she can barely read, but she goes out of her way to speak French to her 5-year-old son. I almost had a heart attack the first time I heard her speaking French to her son because i could not understand exactly what she was saying and could not tell her what she just said was not proper French.

Yes, I do have a problem watching Haitians going out of their way to speak a foreign language other than their own, the Creole.

But again, if you live in a area of the country with a very small Haitian population of a few undrends and barely meet any, and here you are speaking English 24/7, after awhile it could be difficult to speak Creole when you do meet some Haitians.

Let's change gear for a minute.

You also talked about Haitian music.

I cherish Haitian music a great deal, mostly the old Haitian music.

I consider the Haitian music of today as the slappiest of all. Sometimes, I would listen to a Haitian song and asking myself what is this?

The Haitian music of today, in my opinion, is incompetently writen, the songs have no message, the singers make more noise than singing, and worst they don't engage their hearts in the songs.

How can anyone listen to a song for 15 20 minutes and call that genius, or good music?

I am not exagerating when I say that I put one CD in my car and I was listening to that one song from Popano Beach to Miami.

And the stupid song was still playing when I got out of my car in Miami.

This is what I call incompetence and mediocrity.

They always calling somebody's name and the most common ones are "allo Carlito, allo Loulou, allo Majorie" and their famous phrase during the song "kite mizik la mache" and "allo so and so, ou pedi" etc...

etc...

These are the impersonations that I have been listening to since I was a little boy in Haiti that I thougght were cool, but not anymore in 2009.
