Mark I know exactly what you mean, I only started listen to Haitian music recently, but mostly online.

There's a guy by the name of Daan Junior, and also Alan Cave, they make pretty good music.

I went to Haiti two years ago when I got there I turned on the radio all i heard was american rap music.

I was so pissed off i wanted to listen to some haitian music.

On the language issue I think a lot of Haitians are ashamed of Creole.

My dad's cousin refuse to speak creole wit his children and the sad thing is he doesn't speak english that well. Those kids cannot say a thing in creole.

I've asked him why he won't teach them creole he says they will fail in school if they speak creole.

I'm afraid when these kids grow up he won't be able to carry a deep conversation with them. Research have shown that bilingual kids do much better in school, it doesn't hurt them. I don't know if you ever experience it, where you're talking to a Haitian who doesn't speak very good English yet they insist on going back in forth where they would say something in english then say the rest in creole it pisses me off. You basically get a melange.

We need to preserve our culture, Creole is part of our culture.

I met a girl while i was visiting montreal once. A Jewish girl, very beautiful, with the most beautiful blue eyes. You could spend hours starring at those eyes. Anyway we dated for a while.

Her family had money and even though they only spoke french, they sent her to a bilingual private school in Montreal.

This girl speaks english with no accent, she's really comfortable in the language and she speaks french just as well. And the thing is she lives in a french neighborhood.

She only practiced the language at school with teachers and friends.

This is why i believe Haiti can reform its school system where a child is comfortable in both Creole and french.

Parents don't necessarily have to speak a language for you to become fluent in it, although it helps.

Me I speak creole very well but i don't feel very comfortable reading it. I have to concentrate when i'm reading and writing creole.

It feels like work.

There are solutions to Haiti's problems but I think there is a group that wants the country to stay where it is because it benefits them.
