Here's what led to US invasion of Haiti Quisqueya in 1915. Prior to the invasion there were public discontent of the country state, which led to the president assassination in the National Palace (the presidential residence and office like the White House).

The president was beheaded (got his head chopped off) and exposed on the National Palace balcony.

The US then had a lot of stake in Haiti and wanted to take over Haiti's banking industry and Haiti's economy, and therefore, to protect its interest, as usual, the US ordered the invasion of Haiti and occupied Haiti for 19 long years.

Haiti is NOT the same ever since.
