Gera Bougui,

"The constitution is right with regard to dual citizenship.

what needs to be done is the migratory education of those leaving the country to go live abroard.

Inform them of the consequences of naturalization" (Bougui).

Bougui, if I understood the above comments correctly, I must say that you're wrong.

The constituion is totally wrong on this issue.

This article was put there as a safeguard to protect the posts/positions of those in the government.

This article, in fact, turns the Haitian political landscape into a recycling program, which means only the same people who keep getting elected and reelected over and over again.

It is a revolving door. It benifits only the so-called Haitian politicians self-interest.

It doesn't do any good for the country.

And we keep wondering why there is no progress made in Haiti.

Bougui, Haiti is the only country that I know of with this problem, but again, this is something that Haiti is good at "the practice of exclusion/exclusivity cultural politics.

I understand there is a great percentage of Haitians in the diaspora with green cards who have a big beef with those who are Naturalized Citizens, and the large majority of Haitians back home do have a lot of hatred and resentment against the naturalized diaspora community as well, and therefore, these 2 groups are ferociously against "dual citizenship.

" But Haitians must realize sooner or later that "you cannot cut off the hand that feeds you."

Bougui, this dual citizenship will never resolve as long as we keep approaching it with a revenge and punishment strategy that is engulfed with such resentment attitude and frame of mind.

I am not trying to make any excuses but the reality is that everybody become naturalized for one reason or another, and those of you who were in the United States when Ronald Reagan became president in the early 80s woule understand some of the justifications why Haitians got in the naturalization bandwagon.

To be Haitian in this country then was not a good thing.

Haitians could not get employment and those who were employed were getting fired or laidoff.

Being Haitians in the 80s would not get you any date with a nonhaitian person, and many Haitians were being deported back to Haiti.

Haitians were being treated in such deplorable and inhuman ways because of the Haitian government raging war against its own people, which caused Haitians to leave their country.

For many, becoming naturalized citizens was the right thing to do in order to spare their lives from getting killed in the hand of the Haitian government.

Today, the Haitian government should have the "moral" obligation and the desency to redeem itself to do the right thing by granting dual citizenship to all. Great majority of Haitians became naturalized to no fault of their own, they had to.

Now you may argue that you, personally, and many other Haitians had managed NOT to renounce your Haitian citizenship against all odds, well, I would agree with you and applaud you for that, but I would tell you also that we are all different and that some people have more tolerance than others.

Anyway, why do so many Haitians including the government are so much against and so afraid "dual citizenship?" The rational used like "paying the consequences of naturalization" is premitive thinking because All other countries do have dual citizenship including the United States of America.

Can the people who are against dual citizenship be in peace with themselves if they say that they would prefer watching Haiti sink down the bottom of the ocean instead of giving dual citizenship when those with dual citizenship are the ones with the skill, the expertise, the experience, and the knowledge to contribute to the rebuilding of Haiti?

Those in charge in Haiti, would they be that dumb to let go of such important manpower as a reaction of their hatred and resentment?

I knew these people in the government were dumb, but I did not know they were that dumb and stupid.

Would it be more important holding on to their paranoia of fear, hatred, and resentment by denying dual citizenship, or doing what's right for the country?

Bougui, the US government understand so much the importance of dual citizenship, the government never think twice to give citizenship to someone with a PhD, a medical doctor, ingeneer, a millionaire, scientist, etc...

because they want to have all well educated and capable people as Americans to contribute their skills, knowledge, expertise, experience, etc..etc...to the development of this country, and so the people of this country can keep spreading the slogance "we are #1" in everything.

Bougui believe it or not, dual citizenship is a win-win affair for Haiti and NOT a negative/desadvantage.
