I supported Aristide in 1991 and 2000-2004 as well. Aristide came into power using his popularity among the Haitian people and made a fortune for himself while Haiti got deeper into poverty.

Aristide made a lot of promises to the people that he did not keep. Haitians need to stop mixing emotion with politics and realize that loving a politician doesn't mean your life is better.

Haitians let Aristide's charisma get the best of them so deep that they feel cripled unless Aristide is in power.

It is time that Haitians put Haiti first and work colectively for the betterment of Haiti instead putting one person first over the country.

It is idiotic to believe that without Aristide Haiti will never move forward and that Haiti is doomed to progress.

But on the other hand I can understand why so many Haitians refuse to work together to move Haiti forward because majority of those Haitians are being taking care of by relatives they have in the diaspora.

They have no jobs in Haiti "yo pap leve lou, yo pap leve pay" and yet, their rent are paid, their children go to school, they can eat, their debts are paid for, and all that is possible by relatives they have in the diaspora.

Haiti is a welfare state where the majority of the masses is being taking care for by others living abroad.

In 2003, for example, Haitians in the diaspora transferred a total of $800 million to their families in Haiti.

Imagine if the diaspora stops sending money to families in Haiti.

Haiti's population would look just like of Somalia's with skinny legs, big bellies and red heads because they would suffer from malnutrution.

As far as I'm concerned Aristide only care about Aristide.

And Haitian government never cared for its citizens and probably never will.

If we want to be a nation, let's accept Aristide as a thing of the past and move forward.

Ireland is a small country with a population of 5 million people, 3 million less than Haiti.

In 1961, Ireland decided to move away from its choatic past and today Ireland is the richest country in the entire Europe continent.

It is time that we, Haitians, start thinking about country as awhole instead of putting an individual before country.
