Dorcinvil, I have some friends who are very close to Preval, but I promise you that you do not want me to be the one to put you in touch with the man. He knows I hate him, and his predecessor Aristide, for what they did to my country.
As for being a visionary: I am not. I am what one would call a pragmatist.
When I look at Haiti, I see that her problems could be fixed by anyone with half a brain.
There have been so many wonderful people right here on this site who have had many great proposals on easy ways to fix the problems in our country.
In the past, I laid out two proposals for how to get literacy to 100% of Haiti within two years.
I also made a suggestion about the recycling issue.
Instead, Preval sold the Haitian recycling rights to the Dominican republic--and now they are getting rich off our trash...more jobs created for the Dominicans, none for Haitians...at least not at any real money making level.
One guy on this site had a great idea for using solar energy in Haiti, another had a whole workable job creation plan. Most of those people gave-up when they realized that this incompetent president was not really interested in improving the country.
As for my Haitian American background; I am fluent in both languages.
I speak English with an accent and I speak French the way the old French speaking Haitians used to. I still count in my head in French, as I went to an Catholic school were I learned my multiple tables in French.
However, because for many years I lived in an area were there were no Haitians, and I spent some high school years and 14 college years in a school where I knew very few Haitians, I express my intellectual thoughts better in English.
When I give conferences they are always in English, but my friends say that when I get upset, I say many words in French.
I speak creole fluently too. However, I only learned to speak Creole as an adult.
It was not spoken at my house when I was little.
I think of Haiti as my first nation, but will also defend my rights as an American.
Honestly though, my feelings for Haiti are always stronger.
I hope I've answered you questions.
