Before Haiti and Dominic Republic were split into two different countries, they were one country known as the Island of Hispaniola.

Even though the Americans do not teach it to be a Hispanic country, historically speaking it is. Then it was invaded by the French and the language changed.

BTW: No one is dying to be Latin.

It is what it is. Go learn some history first.
