Undocumented Haitian Immigrants Order of Removal

< Previous | Home | Next >

The old arguments against US immigration policies sound like a broken record.

They were never strong and convincing arguments to begin with. The Haitian leadership in the US needs a brand new argument or the demonstrations will be in vain!
The old Haitian arguments:
1. Cuban boat-people are given political asylum why not the Haitian boat-people?

2. Haitians fled their homeland because of political persecutions.

3. Haiti has been ravaged by four tropical storms.

4. Undocumented Haitian Immigrants contribute to the US economy
5. The Haitian Diaspora needs time to improve Haiti therefore Temporary Status will buy the time.

The US counter-arguments:
1. Haiti is and was never under a communist regime.

2. Haitians fled their homeland primarily because of a stagnant economy with extremely low GDP growth rate over the past 200 years or so, not political persecutions
3. Although true, the US position is that it bears no responsibility on a storm-ravaged nation, it's just nature doing its job. Besides, the US provided up to ten millions in emergency relief funds to help the storm victims of Haiti.

4. Just as any other undocumented immigrant group do. The Haitian case is not special.

In addition, the US believes most Haitian immigrants are low skill workers.

The US is looking for high skill workers through H2B visas.

5. The Haitian Diaspora does not have a plan to improve Haiti; it never did.

Unless the Haitian leadership can devise a new and convincing argument for TPS and a path to citizenship for undocumented Haitian immigrants, I feel his efforts will not bear fruit.

So long
