Alix - Are you saying, for example, the former governor of New York, Mario Cuomo, whose parents are Italians but was born in United States, is also a US citizen and a US national, and he is also an Italian citizens and national too?
Some countries' constitution do consider, however, a child born of a US citizen as a full US citizen regardless where that child is born. For example, John McCain was born in Panama, but his parents were US citizens therefore he is a full US citizens and not a panamain.
A Haitian child born in the US of Haitian parents is dully a US citizen and NOT a Haitian citizen or national.
That child consider himself/herself Haitian due to his/her parents who happen to be Haitians.
If that child would someday want to have a Haitian citizenship, that child will have to become a Haitian naturalized.
Acording to the Haitian constitution a person HAS to be born in Haitian soil in order to gain Haitian citizenship and nationality status.
My son who is a US-born is NOT a Haitian citizen nor a Haitian national and cannot participate in any political affairs in Haiti.
He is Haitian by blood only.
By the Australian constitution, for example, once married to an Australian citizen, you become an Australian citizen automatically, there is no way around it, but it is deferent from contry to country.
In the US, married to a US citizen is not enough to grant you citizenship, but you have to wait for at least 5 years before you can apply for it, and that is if you want to become a US citizens.
Keep in mind that you have to have a green card first before you can become a US citizen.
