Linda - Thank you for those very sobering thoughts
A follow-up on 1st time traveler to Haiti solicits advice, Linda -
Thank you for those very sobering thoughts.
Unfortunately, my personal circumstances do not allow the luxury of spending more than a week, at least at this time, visiting w/ our friends in Cerca la Source.
And, I can not be optimistic about learning the Kreyol language.
I almost flunked out of college attempting to learn French!
Fortunately, I am not a missionary, at least in the typical sense of that term ("a person sent on the work of a religious mission").
Those whom we will visit are of the same religious faith as I. I hope what we will be doing is sharing our journey of faith, sharing our lives on the way to eternal life. Not an easy thing for either of us to do, at least well.
Personally, as Tiba noted earlier, I anticipate that I will be the primary beneficiary of the experience, not the giver.
I would hope I will be able, somehow, to recipricate at least in part for the hospitality and affection I expect will be offered to me.
I will copy your suggestions and provide them to my two traveling companions.
I think they will add to our appreciation of what it is we are about on this trip.
